Senior Tax Preparation & Planning SpecialistPosition Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Preparation & Planning Specialist to provide comprehensive tax preparation, compliance, and proactive tax planning services to high-net-worth individuals and families.

The ideal candidate has strong technical tax knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to identify sophisticated tax-saving opportunities while maintaining accuracy and compliance. This position will manage complex individual returns and related entities while working closely with clients to develop year-round tax strategies.

Key ResponsibilitiesTax Preparation & Compliance
Prepare and review complex federal, state, and local income tax returns for high-net-worth individuals and families.
Prepare and/or review individual, trust, estate, partnership, S corporation, and related business tax returns, as applicable.
Analyze complex tax documents, investment activity, K-1s, brokerage statements, real estate transactions, and other financial information.
Calculate and monitor quarterly estimated tax payments and extension payments.
Research complex federal and state tax matters and document conclusions.
Identify potential tax issues and planning opportunities during the preparation and review process.
Maintain accurate workpapers and supporting documentation.
Assist with IRS and state tax notices, examinations, and other tax correspondence.
Ensure returns and related filings are completed accurately and within required deadlines.
Tax Planning & Advisory
Develop proactive, year-round tax planning strategies for high-net-worth clients.
Prepare tax projections and scenario analyses to evaluate potential tax consequences before transactions or financial decisions are completed.
Identify opportunities to minimize current and future tax liabilities while remaining compliant with applicable tax laws.
Advise clients regarding estimated payments, investment-related taxation, capital gains and losses, charitable giving, retirement strategies, business ownership, and other tax-sensitive decisions.
Coordinate tax planning with clients’ broader financial circumstances, including investments, businesses, real estate, trusts, and estate-planning considerations.
Monitor changes in federal and state tax laws and communicate relevant planning opportunities to clients.
Work collaboratively with clients’ CPAs, attorneys, financial advisors, investment professionals, and other outside professionals when appropriate.
Conduct year-end tax planning meetings and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
Client Relationship Management
Serve as a trusted tax advisor and primary point of contact for assigned high-net-worth clients.
Develop a thorough understanding of each client’s financial structure, goals, and tax circumstances.
Explain complex tax matters in clear, practical language.
Respond to client questions professionally and promptly.
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive financial and personal information.
Build long-term client relationships through proactive communication and high-quality service.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field preferred.
Enrolled Agent (EA), or advanced tax credential preferred.
Approximately 5+ years of progressively responsible tax preparation and planning experience preferred.
Demonstrated experience preparing complex individual income tax returns.
Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and families strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of federal individual income taxation and applicable state tax requirements.
Familiarity with taxation involving investments, pass-through entities, trusts, estates, real estate, and closely held businesses.
Strong tax research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Experience with professional tax preparation and tax planning software.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines.
High attention to detail, accuracy, professional judgment, and discretion.
Preferred Experience

Complex investment portfolios and capital transactions
Partnership and S corporation taxation
Trust and estate taxation
Real estate investments and transactions
Stock options and equity compensation
Charitable contribution strategies
Retirement and distribution planning
Estimated tax and cash-flow planning
High-net-worth and family wealth structures
Tax projections and scenario modeling

The successful candidate will combine excellent tax preparation skills with a proactive planning mindset. Rather than focusing solely on annual tax return preparation, this professional will develop a deep understanding of each client’s financial situation, anticipate tax consequences, identify planning opportunities throughout the year, and provide thoughtful recommendations that create long-term value for high-net-worth clients.
