Hiring Egyptian remote talent: working hours, English and customer support

The short answer: Egypt has a large, established talent market for international work. Candidates can work your hours, US or European, and English is assessed person by person rather than assumed from a national average.

Is Egypt a good country to hire remote talent from?

Egypt already serves international companies at scale. According to ITIDA, Egypt’s IT industry development agency, the offshoring sector employs over 195,000 specialists across 252 companies and 282 global delivery centers (August 2026).

Software development is where demand is highest. At ITIDA’s employment fairs between October 2023 and March 2024, software development roles made up over 58% of 3,200 job openings.

The roles we fill most are backend engineering on Node.js and Python, frontend engineering on React, and customer support and customer success.

What working hours can you expect?

Cairo runs on UTC+2, and UTC+3 during summer time (24 April to 30 October in 2026).

Your team Difference with Cairo A 9 AM to 5 PM day in Cairo time
Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam Cairo is 1 hour ahead 10 AM to 6 PM
London Cairo is 2 hours ahead 11 AM to 7 PM
New York Cairo is 7 hours ahead 4 PM to midnight
Los Angeles Cairo is 10 hours ahead 7 PM to 3 AM

The US differences hold for most of the year. They shrink by one hour for a few weeks in spring and autumn, when the US and Egypt change their clocks on different dates.

European teams get close to a full shared day. For US teams, the question is not overlap but whether the person will work your day. We confirm that before anyone reaches your shortlist: if you run Eastern, the candidate works Eastern. If you run Pacific, the candidate works Pacific.

How good is their English?

National averages tell you little about the people who apply for international roles. In the EF English Proficiency Index 2025, Egypt’s overall score is 458, below the global average of 488. The same index scores Egyptian IT professionals at 492, above the global average, and customer service professionals at 483, close to it.

Our own pool shows the same pattern. Of the 84 candidates who passed our screening, 64 (76%) describe their English as Professional, Fluent or Native-level. This is self-reported, which is why it is never the last word.

English is checked twice before a candidate reaches you:

  • A recorded audio or video introduction.
  • A live screening call, where we hear how they explain their own work and handle questions they did not prepare for.

Candidates whose English is conversational do not go forward for client-facing, support or sales roles, whatever their technical fit.

Is Egypt a good place to hire customer support?

Egyptian outsourcing employers hire support staff in several languages. At the same ITIDA employment fairs, the most requested languages for call center and outsourcing roles were English (49% of jobs), German (23%), French (14%) and Italian (13%).

Different support channels need different checks:

  • Email and ticket support: written English, accuracy and tone.
  • Live chat: written English under time pressure.
  • Voice support: listening comprehension and clear speech, tested on a live call.

Customer support is one of our core roles, with five qualified candidates within 48 hours of the brief call. For pay and hiring structure, see what it costs to hire an Egyptian developer and how to hire a remote developer in Egypt.
