About REM Waste
We’re transforming the UK waste management industry through automation, innovation, and scalable tech. As we shift from startup MVP to a platform supporting real-time operations, we’re hiring a QA professional who treats quality like a product—someone who owns processes, not just tasks.
What We’re Really Looking For
We don’t want someone who just waits for a test case. We’re looking for someone who leads without the title—who builds systems, not just follows them. If you’re used to working reactively, ticking boxes, and asking “what do you want me to do?”—this role isn’t for you.
You should be confident owning the QA function, setting standards, and using automation to scale quality across everything we ship. You’ll need to operate with autonomy, curiosity, and a strong sense of responsibility.
What You’ll Be Accountable For
Ownership of QA – Define and execute the entire quality process, from strategy to tooling to release gates.
Build from scratch – Implement automated UI and API frameworks using Cypress, Playwright, Postman, or equivalent.
Design and lead testing strategy – Prioritise based on risk, product logic, and real-world usage.
Run exploratory tests – Discover bugs that automation won’t catch—simulate real user scenarios and friction points.
Embed into CI/CD – Own quality within GitHub Actions pipelines and ensure stability across deployments.
Document obsessively – Your documentation will support technical onboarding, scaling, and robust QA standards.
Collaborate cross-functionally – Be active in agile ceremonies and daily work with product managers and engineers.
Real AI Experience is an Advantage
We’re heavily integrating AI into our workflows, and we’re looking for candidates who’ve already used AI in real-world QA scenarios.
This means you’ve actively used AI tools—whether for test case generation, bug triage, visual comparisons, or performance insights.
We’re not looking for someone who just knows what’s possible—we need people who’ve actually done it.
Skills and Experience That Matter
4+ years in QA roles with strong automation experience
Built test frameworks (UI and API) from scratch
JavaScript/TypeScript testing proficiency
Hands-on with Cypress, Playwright, or React Testing Library
CI/CD testing integration experience (GitHub Actions preferred)
Strong documentation and stakeholder communication skills
Comfortable working remotely with accountability
Bonus Points For
AI tools used in live QA environments (e.g. CodiumAI, Testim, QA Wolf, etc.)
Visual and performance testing (Percy, Lighthouse, JMeter)
Accessibility and security testing knowledge
SaaS or B2B QA experience
Exposure to AWS, GCP, or Azure environments
What You’ll Get
Competitive salary
Remote-first – Work from anywhere with UK hours alignment
Zero micromanagement – Own your domain, drive your decisions
High-impact work – Ship quality features at speed and scale
Supportive, ambitious team – We build fast, but build right
Apply Now
If you’re ready to lead QA, apply your skills with real autonomy, and work on something meaningful—hit apply and take control of quality from day one.
Commitment & Work Style (Read Carefully)
This role starts part-time with a clear path to full-time for the right person.
Initial Structure
• Part-time: 20–25 hours per week
• Fully remote
• Must overlap with UK working hours (9am–5pm UK)
Path to Full-Time
We expect to review conversion to full-time within 8–12 weeks, based on:
• Stability of automated test suites
• Quality gate effectiveness in CI/CD
• Clarity and usefulness of QA documentation
• Product confidence at release time
Why We’re Doing This
We prefer to prove fit before scaling commitment, on both sides.
If you demonstrate ownership, judgment, and delivery, this role is designed to
expand into a full-time position with increased scope and compensation.
What “Right Person” Means
• You treat QA as a product and a system, not a task list
• You operate independently and improve what already exists
• You communicate clearly and document decisions
• You think in trade-offs, risk, and real-world usage
What This Is Not
• Not a casual freelance role
• Not a short-term contract
• Not a “do what you’re told” QA position
Expectation
• High ownership during part-time phase
• Clear deliverables agreed upfront
• Weekly outcomes reviewed, not hours
